At the dawn of the new millennium, against all doom and gloom predictions, the bug did no damage, and when the dot-com bubble burst, stock markets around the world shook.
But once the buzz has died down and the enthusiasm has worn off, what remains is the essence: digital technologies are growing at a dizzying pace. The Internet ceases to be a network of university researchers or a meeting place for a few digital nerds.
While Nicholas Negroponte's "Being Digital" is published in Italy and Wired magazine, known as the "Bible of the Internet", turns technology into a lifestyle, for the first time in the world, information stored in digital format surpasses that in traditional analog format.
On 1 January 2000, the ADSL connection arrived in Italy at the astonishing speed of 640 kb/s. It is the beginning of a great transformation that will soon be dubbed the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
The Italian SMEs with a PC account for almost 50%, those with an email service for less than 40% and only 14% those with a website.

EOS, a digital company founded in Bolzano with the mission of supporting the technological evolution of Italian companies, released its first corporate ERP project based on Navision in 2000.
